Dr Jonny Coates
Executive Director & Founder
Originally an immunologist, since 2020, Jonny has developed a metascience research progam focussed on preprints and science communication, initially publishing two papers investigating the use of preprints during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has appeared on international radio stations (BBC Radio 4, ORF & German National radio) and his work has featured in numerous journalistic outlets. He created and hosts the Preprints in Motion podcast to highlight the benefits of preprints for early career researchers and sits on the scientific advisory boards of Europe PMC, eiRxiv and AREN (Africa Reproducibility Network)
Jonny is a world-leading expert in preprints in the life sciences and a leading advocate for change within research culture, believing that the lynchpin for this change lies with changing the publishing system.
Outside of work he enjoys climbing, photography, nature, fine-dining, guitars, comedy, live-music and adrenaline-fueled adventures and his adorable dog, Jessie. Jonny is based in Sheffield, UK.
